The BBC's annual fundraising evening for Children in Need took place yesterday, and by the end of the evening raised £47,886,382 for the charity.

The evening featured a special surprise for Anastasia who, having presented a video about the work done by drame group Hackney Shed to boost confidence for herself and others, was then thrilled as her very own heroine the Doctor arrived on stage to meet her!

Jodie Whittaker, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill were all on hand to make it a very special evening for Anastasia, with Jodie also presenting her with her very own sonic screwdriver.

The BBC's annual fundraising evening for Children in Need took place yesterday, and by the end of the evening raised £50,595,053 for the charity!

The evening featured a special treat for nine year old Doctor Who fan Anna, who suffers from cystic fibrosis, when she and her brother Alex got to travel to the TARDIS and meet the cast, and also an exclusive clip from this weekend's adventure, Kerblam.

As in previous years, the BBC's annual charity fundraising evening for Children in Need will feature an item relating to the forthcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special.

This year this will take the form of an exclusive clip from The Return of Doctor Mysterio:

The sneak peak will see the Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi and Nardole, played by Matt Lucas, team up with an investigative reporter played by Charity Wakefield and a masked vigilante played by Justin Chatwin to defend New York from a terrifying alien invasion before the full episode, ‘The Return of Doctor Mysterio’, airs at Christmas.

Written by Steven Moffat, they will be joined by Adetomiwa Edun, Aleksandar Jovanovic and Logan Hoffman.

The exclusive clip will form part of BBC Children in Need’s Appeal Show on Friday 18th November, 7pm, BBC One whilst the 60 minute special will air later in the year at Christmas.

The programme is executive produced by Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark).

This year's Children in Need takes place in the evening of Friday 18th November.

Last night the annual Children in Need appeal evening raised £37,100,687 in order to help children and young people who are disadvantaged in the United Kingdom.

Though there were no specific Doctor Who related presentations this year, a Dalek did appear as part of a sketch by Harry Hill representing the show in television history, and you can still donate to the charity by clicking below:

Doctor Who has often had some involvement with Children in Need, harking back to 25th November 1983 when the 20th Anniversary Special, The Five Doctors was broadcast as part of the appeal (with then Doctor Peter Davison providing the Doctor's coat for auction). Other activities include:

The fundraising telethon Children in Need is to return on Friday (14th November) on BBC One at 7pm. The BBC has confirmed that there will be a segment for Doctor Who. This has been the case since the show's revival back in 2005. Whether it will be in the form of a trailer or a mini-episode is currently unknown.

Children in Need have also launched an online auction on eBay, offering a once-in-a lifetime trip to the Doctor Who set in Cardiff and the chance to experience the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

An exclusive Doctor Who behind the scenes set visit!

The Doctor Who production team are kindly offering an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience for two lucky Whovians! The winning bidder plus a friend will go behind the scenes of filming for an episode of the next series, and see Peter Capaldi in action in his latest outing as The Doctor.

The winner of this package will experience:

• Watching filming for an episode of the new series of Doctor Who
• A conducted VIP tour of the set
• Meeting the cast of the show (this is dependent on schedules, specific requests unfortunately cannot be guaranteed)
• Having a photo taken on the set
• A nice lunch with the crew

The BBC's annual fundraising event Children in Need is in full swing tonight, and at 7:55pm it was the Doctor's turn to encourage people to donate to the cause with an exclusive clip from the 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor; the clip featured Matt Smith as the Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara, Jemma Redgrave as Kate, plus David Tennant as the Doctor and a very brief glimpse of Joanna Page as Elizabeth!

As part of the annual fundraising effort for the BBC Children in Need Appeal, a set visit to watch a day's production on the first episode of the next series of Doctor Who has appeared in the charity's set of e-bay auctions.

The auction, which is open until 9.17pm on Sunday 17th November, offers the winner the following:

Each year a variety of items from celebrities and programmes have been donated for auction to raise money for Children in Need, and Doctor Who is no exception.

This year sees one of the three casts made of Matt Smith's handprints for The Doctor Who Experience back in October donated for the charity; the item is available to bid upon via Ebay until 6:09pm on Monday - at the time of writing the current bid is £510.

Other Doctor Who related items include Matt Smith's autograph, and signed Pudsey Bears by David Tennant and John Barrowman.

The BBC have released a photo of Matt Smith as the Doctor as part of the publicity for this Friday's Children In Need on BBC1.

Doctor Who, featuring Matt Smith, will bring viewers an extra special 'prequel' to its Christmas special, with a bespoke storyline made for Children in Need, and an exclusive preview trailer of the Christmas special including the first glimpse of the Doctor with his new companion.

The segment is due to appear during the 8:30-9:00pm slot of the evening, though timings are invariably estimates due to the live nature of the programme.

With all the excitement brewing for the Doctor's latest appearance tonight in Children in Need, we thought it would be worth providing a brief reminder of the cause it is in aid of:

BBC Children in Need provides grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged. It is local to people in all corners of the UK and supports small and large organisations which empower children and extend their life choices.

The grant programmes are open all year round for applications, with a focus on allocating the money to deserving projects 4 times a year. To find out more about grant programmes, to apply for a grant or to hear how some children's lives have been changed for the better, visit 'Change Lives'

Every penny from the money you raise or donate will go towards helping disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK. Children in Need is able to make this promise because it uses investment income and Gift Aid to cover all running costs, meaning that you can be sure your money makes a real difference.

"So far you have helped to raise over £600 million and you never cease to amaze us with your fabulous fundraising events and generous donations. However, there are still so many children that need your help. Doctor Who has often featured as part of the Children in Need evening, including the premier broadcasts of the special episodes The Five Doctors (1983), Dimensions in Time (1993), "Born Again" (2005) and Time Crash (2007), plus a Dead Ringers special (2003) and a number of previews, including the forthcoming Christmas Special whose name is to be revealed tonight. Last year featured a special tea party within the TARDIS, and tonight the Doctor is even losing his clothes for the cause!

The BBC have released three promotional images of Matt Smith as the Doctor for tomorrow's Children in Need evening:

The special mini-episode was recorded yesterday at BBC Television Centre in London - the first time that the Doctor has been filmed there for an episode of Doctor Who since Ghostlight wrapped in 1989 - and directed by Richard Senior (Let's Kill Hitler). The episode, written by show-runner Steven Moffat, sees the Doctor offering viewers the chance to win his tweed jacket (as seen in The Doctor's Wife), bow-tie as well as other items, which will be added to the charity's online auction; the winning bidder will also receive a signed copy of the script.

Matt Smith said:

I'd say the tweed jacket or the bow-tie are the most iconic - although the boots are my personal favourite. I hope people donate generously for BBC Children in Need because it's a wonderful cause - and we've got to beat last year's total.

Items also in the auction include art work from the cast of The Sarah Jane Adventures: Tommy by Anjli Mohindra, Anjli by Tommy Knight, Odd Bob by Tommy Knight, Shansheeth, Anjli Mohindra, The Groske, Daniel Anthony and The Empty Planet, Anjli. The title of the Christmas Special is also to be revealed during the evening, with an exclusive preview of the episode scheduled for between 8:00-8:30pm.
