One of the Dalek props, used in the 2013 drama based on the creation of Doctor Who, An Adventure In Space And Time, it to go up for auction next month.

The Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia live auction, will be held on the 23rd of September at the BFI IMAX in London. A free preview exhibition will also take place in the run up to the auction, opening on the 9th September to the public and showcasing over 250 pieces of the collection on offer.

The Dalek, which has a guide price of £4,000 - £6,000, was based on the original Dalek design by Raymond Cusick, first seen in 1963. Also up for auction is a shooting script from the docu-drama.

Other sci-fi items in the auction include Leonard Nimoy’s Spock Costume from Star Trek, a Stormtrooper Helmet from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes back and Christopher Reeve’s Superman Tunic. Two of the least expensive lots in the sale are a helmet worn by the Knights of the Round Table from Monty Python and the Holy Grail estimated at £200 - £300, and a lot of Quad Posters from Blade Runner’s original 1982 release, estimated to sell for £200.

The drama based on the birth of Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space and Time, has been nomionated of an International Emmy Award.

Nominations for the 2014 International Emmy Awards were announced today by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at a Press Conference at the Mipcom convention in Cannes.

An Adventure In Space And Time was written by Mark Gatiss and directed by Terry McDonough.

The drama has previously been nominated for a BAFTA award and a Critics Choice award, but lost out in both cases.

Doctor Who Magazine has confirmed that a limited edition 50th Anniversary DVD/Blu-ray box set will be released in the autumn.

6,000 Blu-rays and 4,000 DVDs will be released of the set, which was first rumoured in February, when the BBFC cleared several extras for inclusion on the discs. As well as the 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, the disc set will include the episodes The Name of the Doctor and Matt Smith's final story as The Doctor, The Time of the Doctor.

Also included will be the docu-drama on the creation of Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space & Time, available on Blu-ray in the UK for the first time, and the Peter Davison-directed spoof The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot. Other extras include a large number of documentaries shown around the period of the show's 50th Anniversary as well as some behind-the-scenes material.

The Doctor Who Appreciation Society (DWAS) is to honour one of the founders of Doctor Who, Verity Lambert, with a special event held at the Riverside Studios in London.

Remembering Verity Lambert will mark the unveiling of a Blue Heritage plaque commemorating the work of one of the most significant and influential figures to work in British Television. The plaque will be on display at Riverside Studios until the venue closes for development in the autumn, when it will be placed into storage and then permanently mounted at the new Riverside media centre when completed.

To celebrate the unveiling of the plaque, DWAS will be showing, by special arrangement with BBC Worldwide, the BAFTA award winning drama An Adventure in Space and Time, in high definition at Riverside’s cinema, on the evening of 23rd July, starting at 7pm. This will be followed by an interview with Lambert’s friend and long time colleague, and the Director of the first Doctor Who story, Waris Hussein.

Tickets for the screening are available free-of-charge directly from DWAS, details on the society's website, and will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis, with a special allocation reserved for DWAS members.

To raise the funds for the plaque, DWAS will be hosting an auction via its eBay site, which will give Doctor Who fans the opportunity to bid for some collectable items donated by friends and fans.

The drama detailing the creation of Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space and Time, has been nominated for three prestigious Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

The drama itself is nominated in the Best Movie category, where it faces competition from an episode of Sherlock as well as another BBC biopic, Burton and Taylor.

David Bradley, who played William Hartnell in the drama, is nominated for Best Actor in a Movie of Mini Series, while Jessica Raine, who played Doctor Who's first producer Verity Lambert, is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Mini Series.

The Critics’ Choice Television Awards honour programs and performances that aired between June 1, 2013 and May 31, and are voted for by US journalists who write about TV.

The Awards will be presented at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in a ceremony hosted by actor/comedian Cedric the Entertainer.

Pandastorm Pictures, a German media distributor, is planning to release "classic" Doctor Who on DVD. The distributor posted an appeal to fans on several German online forums, asking if there are people out there who had recorded the original German-dubbed broadcasts of Seasons 22-26, which aired on RTL Plus (1989/1993) and VOX (1995).

As the German-dubbed language tracks of some of the episodes are missing in the archives, Pandastorm is especially searching for the following episodes:

It cannot say yet if it is going to release season boxed sets or single story releases but it is trying to get the rights to every bonus feature available.


Meanwhile, the previously reported German (and right now the only European) Blu-ray release of An Adventure in Space and Time is now up for pre-order on Amazon DE. It contains all the bonus features of the British DVD release and the original English language track. A DVD version is also available.

Doctor Who picked up two BAFTA Television Craft Awards at last night's ceremony, held at The Brewery in London.

The annual event celebrates the very best behind-the-scenes talent in British television of the past year, and the 50th-anniversary special The Day of the Doctor won the Special, Visual & Graphic Effects title, with Milk VFX, Real SFX and The Model Unit being named in the citation, while An Adventure In Space And Time - the BBC Two drama centring on the genesis of Doctor Who - won for Make Up and Hair Design, with Vickie Lang named in the citation.

The triumph by The Day of the Doctor ended a seven-year run of being nominated in that category but losing.

Doctor Who At The Proms 2013, which had been nominated for Entertainment Craft Team, lost out to Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. An Adventure In Space And Time had also been nominated for Costume Design and Editing - Fiction but was pipped to those titles by Downton Abbey and The Fall respectively.

More success for The Day of the Doctor and An Adventure In Space And Time could be on its way, however, at the TV BAFTAs, as An Adventure In Space and Time has been nominated for Single Drama and The Day of the Doctor is up for the Radio Times Audience Award, with the winner of the latter to be decided by a public vote. The TV BAFTAs will be held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, on Sunday 18th May.

Votes for the Radio Times Audience Award can be cast via the voting page and must be in by midday BST on Thursday 15th May. A valid e-mail address must be given for the vote to count, and only one vote per person is allowed. Duplicate votes from the same person will not be counted.

BAFTA has launched a competition in which somebody can win two tickets to this year's TV Awards by submitting a caption for a photo that includes a Dalek.

As reported earlier this month, An Adventure In Space and Time - the BBC Two drama by Mark Gatiss centring on the genesis of Doctor Who - is in the running for the title of Best Single Drama at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, while the 50th-anniversary special The Day of the Doctor is up for the Radio Times Audience Award, with the winner of the latter to be decided by a public vote. The victors will be revealed on the BAFTA website, its Facebook page and Twitter feed as they are announced, while exclusive footage will be available on BAFTA's YouTube channel, with the ceremony also being shown on BBC One.

The awards are being held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, on Sunday 18th May, and for your chance to win two tickets to the star-studded event, simply submit to BAFTA a witty and inventive caption for the picture below, which shows a Dalek behind food writer and broadcaster Mary Berry at last year's TV awards ceremony, held at the Royal Festival Hall.

Doctor Who dominates the nominations for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form Programme in the 2014 Hugo Awards.

Not only are the two episodes The Day of the Doctor and The Name of the Doctor nominated, but so is the docu-drama based on the origins of the show, An Adventure in Space and Time, and the spoof anniversary drama featuring Doctors 5, 6, 7 and 8, The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.

Doctor Who's head writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, said:

For Doctor Who to receive three Hugo nominations in its anniversary year is completely thrilling. We are all over the moon. I'm particularly pleased about The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot as that was my acting debut. I remain available for any parts requiring a black jumper and slightly unrealistic hair.

Doctor Who has been nominated for a Hugo most years since the series returned in 2005. Previous winners include Neil Gaiman for The Doctor's Wife, Steven Moffat for The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Girl in the Fireplace, Blink, and The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang and Russell T Davies and Phil Ford for The Waters of Mars. Last year, despite being nominated for three episodes, the show lost out to Game of Thrones when the awards were announced.

Also nominated this year is Queers Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the LGBTQ Fans Who Love It, edited by Sigrid Ellis & Michael Damian Thomas and published by Mad Norwegian Press, in the Best Related Work category, while The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who, written by Paul Cornell and illustrated by Jimmy Broxton, has been nominated for Best Graphic Novel.

Also nominated, in the Best Fancast category, is the podcast Verity!, named after Doctor Who's first producer and billed as Six Smart Women Discussing Doctor Who. The podcast is the first Doctor Who podcast to be nominated for the award. The producers told Doctor Who News: "We are thrilled to be nominated for our work during the anniversary year."

The 2014 awards will be presented at Loncon 3 - the 72nd World Science Fiction Convention - to be held at ExCeL in London between Thursday 14th and Monday 18th August, with the awards themselves being presented on Sunday 17th August.

Polyband, the German media distributor for Doctor Who, have announced the release of Ein Abenteuer in Raum und Zeit, aka An Adventure in Space and Time, on Blu-ray for the end of July.

The release marks the first time the high definition format of the 50th Anniversary drama will be available in Europe, and will feature both the English and an exclusive German language soundtrack made especially for this release - the drama did not air in Germany itself.

The set is also expected to include all of the special features present on the North American version, which is due to be released in May.

A press release was issued for announcement, tying into this week's BAFTA nomination for the drama.

A three-disc Blu-ray edition of the drama An Adventure In Space And Time is to be released for Region 1 territories on Tuesday 27th May.

The 90-minute special - which tells the story of Doctor Who's genesis - was made for BBC Two as part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations. Written by Mark Gatiss and directed by Terry McDonough, it stars David Bradley as William Hartnell, Jessica Raine as Verity Lambert, Brian Cox as Sydney Newman and Sacha Dhawan as Waris Hussein.

The first disc will be the Blu-ray of the drama, while the second disc will be a DVD containing the pilot episode of Doctor Who plus the four episodes comprising the first story, An Unearthly Child, and disc three will be a DVD of An Adventure In Space And Time.

A selection of preview clips from the forthcoming soundtrack release of An Adventure In Space And Time has been made available by BBC Worldwide.

The score, written by Edmund Butt, was performed by the Chamber Orchestra of London, and Mark Gatiss, who wrote the BBC Two 50th-anniversary drama about the genesis of the programme, has said:

Making Adventure was a wonderful experience. The whole team were absolutely dedicated to the project, going the extra mile (or parsec) to create that smoggy early '60s world where so much seemed (and was) suddenly possible. And none more so than Edmund Butt whose gorgeous score is one of the highlights of the film. I've been completely overwhelmed by the response to the film. It was a very special project from the outset and I know Ed's soundtrack will continue to thrill and delight for, well, the rest of space and time.

The 25-track disc, which will be released on the Silva Screen label on Monday 3rd March, can be pre-ordered, and excerpts from five of the tracks are available to listen to below.

This special one-off drama that travels back to 1963 to see how Doctor Who was first brought to the screen. Actor William Hartnell felt trapped by a succession of hard-man roles. Wannabe producer Verity Lambert was frustrated by the TV industry's glass ceiling. Both of them were to find unlikely hope and unexpected challenges in the form of a Saturday tea-time drama. Allied with a team of unusual but brilliant people, they went on to create the longest running science fiction series ever made.

Composer Edmund Butt is well known for scores for Sea of Souls, Murphy’s Law, Mistresses, Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. He is the Winner of the 2011 RTS Award for Best Television Score for Garrow’s Law. In 2012 Ed was nominated for RTS Award for Best Original Title Theme for Without You.

Making ‘Adventure’ was a wonderful experience. The whole team were absolutely dedicated to the project, going the extra mile (or parsec) to create that smoggy early 60s world where so much seemed (and was) suddenly possible. And none more so than Edmund Butt whose gorgeous score is one of the highlights of the film. I’ve been completely overwhelmed by the response to the film. It was a very special project from the outset and I know Ed’s soundtrack will continue to thrill and delight for, well, the rest of space and time...

Silva Screen Records have announced the release of a CD containing music from An Adventure in Space and Time.

The drama, about the origins of Doctor Who, was broadcast last month as part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations. The soundtrack featuring the score by Edmund Butt will be released early in 2014

As many of you reading this may know, An Adventure in Space and Time has been the summation of a long-held dream of mine to tell the story of the birth-pangs of ‘Doctor Who’.

And none more so than Edmund Butt whose gorgeous score is one of the highlights of the film.

I’ve been completely overwhelmed by the response to the film. It was a very special project from the outset and I know Ed’s soundtrack will continue to thrill and delight for, well, the rest of space and time…

An Adventure in Space and Time will be repeated in the UK on Christmas Day at 4.15pm on BBC Two, plus a special broadcast with sign language on Saturday 21 December at 1.50am.

The BFI has released an excerpt from the panel session that it recorded at last month's preview screening of An Adventure In Space and Time.

Director Terry McDonough, actors Sacha Dhawan and David Bradley, William Hartnell's granddaughter and biographer Jessica Carney, and the BBC Two drama's writer Mark Gatiss were the special guests discussing the production with journalist Matthew Sweet - who donned a Menoptra outfit for the drama - following its world première on Tuesday 12th November.

Although not available on the BFI's YouTube channel as yet, the ten-minute extract can be viewed on the organisation's video page.

The Culture Show documentary on Doctor Who, Me, You and Doctor Who, achieved an overnight audience of 0.9 million viewers, a 4% share of the total audience.

The show was opposite top-rated programme of the day I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, with 9.8 million watching.

Thursday's showing of An Adventure in Space and Time achieved an Appreciation Index score of 88. The score is regarded as excellent.

An Adventure in Space and Time had an audience of 2.2 million viewers, according to unofficial overnight viewing figures.

The drama which had a 9.7% share of the audience, was placed against I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! on ITV, which dominated the day with 9.7 million watching, a massive 41.1% share. BBC One showed Britain's Secret Terror Force at 9pm, which got slightly fewer viewers than An Adventure in Space and Time.

Overall the docu-drama was the 22nd most viewed programme of the day on British Television and the second highest on BBC Two for the day.

On BBC Four the repeat of the original Doctor Who story, An Unearthly Child, had 0.67 million watching, roughly equivalent to those watching the BBC Three repeats earlier in the week. The episode had a 4.3% share of the audience and was the second highest rated digital programme in its timeslot, with I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here Now getting top spot.

Episode Two of the story, The Cave of Skulls, had 0.59 million watching and a 4.8% share of the audience. The Forest of Fear got 0.41 million,a 4.5% share and the final episode, The Firemaker, shown at 11.45pm, had 0.36 million as 5.4% share.

Final figures will be released next week and will include those recording the show and watching within one week of transmission.

The BBC have released a documentary looking at the making of the BBC Two docu-drama An Adventure in Space and Time.

The official website has also been updated with material based on the drama, including a timeline detailing the production of Doctor Who and information on all the many creative and inspirational people who played a part in the creation of the series.

In addition, film-maker Kevin Jon Davies has released his own behind-the-scenes footage of filming that took place on Westminster Bridge on an early Sunday morning in February, which accompanies the BBC's own report from the time.

Google have also released their street view photos of the inside of Television Centre. Taken just before the closure of the centre in Spring 2013, Google took its cameras around most of the studios and production areas which had been home to BBC Television since 1960. The filming of the An Adventure in Space and Time was taking place at the time showing how some of the offices had been restored to their 1960's look.
